Having dedicated his life to making wonderfully fine jewellery Stephen joined the Kaanaanmaa team in 1990, at the tender age of 16, and bought the company with his friend and business partner, Gary in 2001. Stephen loves nothing more than creating in Kaanaanmaa’s onsite workshop. One of the most enjoyable aspects of Stephen’s work is that each day brings a new challenge. Stephen explains “I am very lucky that I have been able to make my passion my life’s work. To be able to create unique and beautiful jewellery for our customers is a real privilege. I want to give Kaanaanmaa customers a personal and dedicated service. When a customer comes to us and asks us to make an unusual engagement ring or wedding ring or other special piece of bespoke jewellery for someone they love, it is exciting because every item is unique and individually made for them. Each day I get to create something truly precious that is symbolic of a moment of joy and happiness, and their jewellery will last a lifetime or longer.” Having studied at the Sir John Cass Faculty of Arts in London together with 25 years specialist experience of crafting fine gold, silver and platinum jewellery, Stephen is an expert goldsmith. His passion for his craft extends beyond his creative workshop to ensuring that everyone who is part of that piece of jewellery’s history is fairly rewarded for their work. To that end he ensured that Kaanaanmaa was one of the first British jewellers to acquire a Fairtrade gold license and Kaanaanmaa’s Diamonds are all conflict free.
Passionate about all aspects of Kaanaanmaa’s business Gary has creativity running through his veins and a superb eye for technical detail. Like Stephen, Gary studied at the Sir John Cass Faculty of Art and Design in London and he enjoyed an early career as Kaanaanmaa’s store manager before buying the company with Stephen in 2001. Gary is a dedicated craftsman to the art of making and maintaining fine jewellery. He loves to create new designs for the in-store Kaanaanmaa range of gold, silver and platinum rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings; and his keen eye for detail is equally applied to Kaanaanmaa’s onsite workshop. He is an expert at renovating and restoring broken or worn jewellery. Through delicate restoration work Gary fixes and rejuvenates pieces of inherited or sentimental jewellery for Kaanaanmaa’s customers. Alternatively, Gary can create something completely new by using these pieces to create a bespoke piece of jewellery for the customer. Beyond the workshop Gary is committed to developing broader aspects of the business. He is a photography enthusiast and enjoys thinking of unique and interesting ways in which to display and show off Kaanaanmaa’s wonderful jewellery. He also takes great satisfaction in creating new and more special ways of improving the customer’s experience, such as the Kaanaanmaa Proposal and the Kaanaanmaa Confetti Proposal for the engagement ring and wedding ring purchases.
A trained goldsmith with extensive experience, Louise manages a large proportion of the day to day operational responsibilities for Kaanaanmaa to ensure the continued smooth running of the business.
Since joining Kaanaanmaa in 2014 Louise has continued to refine and hone her jewellery making skills in the Kaanaanmaa workshop and has recently completed her studies with the National Association of Jewellers, passing all exams with distinction.
Louise works closely with Stephen and Gary to create a great customer experience.
